A Beautiful October Wedding at Stevenson Inn & Spa, Ontario

There’s something special about an October wedding in Ontario. The cooler air, warm evening light, changing leaves, and earlier sunsets create such a beautiful atmosphere for wedding photography. This wedding at Stevenson Inn & Spa had all of that—and a couple who clearly had a lot of fun together.

From the relaxed portraits earlier in the day to dancing under the pavilion and catching the last light of sunset, it was a wonderful fall wedding to photograph.

Wedding Photography at Stevenson Inn & Spa

One of the things I loved about photographing this wedding was the variety we could create without having to travel between locations.

The open grounds gave us plenty of room for classic portraits of the newlyweds, while the mature trees and surrounding countryside provided a simple, natural backdrop. The bride's white gown and bouquet looked incredible against the fall colours, while the groom's navy suit was a perfect complement to the warmer tones of the season.

I always make sure to capture some traditional portraits where everyone is looking at the camera, but I also want couples to have photographs that feel natural and show their personalities. Those in-between moments—laughing, walking together, dancing, or simply enjoying a few minutes away from everyone—often become some of my favourite images from a wedding day.

And these two made that part easy.

A First Dance Surrounded by Family and Friends

The rustic pavilion at Stevenson Inn & Spa created a beautiful setting for the couple's first dance.

With the wooden beams, chandelier and string lights overhead, it had a warm and intimate feeling while still allowing guests to gather around and be part of the moment.

As a wedding photographer, these are the moments where I love to step back a little and let things happen. Instead of trying to make everything perfectly posed, I'm looking for expressions, reactions from family and friends, and those little moments between the bride and groom that tell the story of the day.

The result is a mixture of beautiful portraits and candid photographs that actually feel like the wedding.

One of my favourite parts of the entire day came as the sun began to disappear.

October sunsets don't give you a lot of time, so when the light started looking incredible, we headed outside for a few more photographs.

And it was absolutely worth it.

The sky turned a beautiful warm orange as the couple walked out onto the open grounds. We captured a few photographs in the fading light, including one of my favourites from the wedding—the groom lifting his bride with the sunset behind them.

It's a photograph that's a little dramatic, a little romantic, and still feels completely like them.

These are the opportunities I always watch for on a wedding day. You can't control the weather or guarantee an amazing sunset, but when everything comes together, sometimes spending five or ten minutes outside can create one of the most memorable photographs of the entire wedding.
